“While this has little to do with the Saras, the upgraded Jaguar-IS JS-210, was one of the more fascinating displays of Aero-India 2007. We sadly didn’t have the chance to capture the actual arrival of this aircraft because of the time lost in getting official permission (again!) to attend in the days ahead of the actual show. Fortunately, it was smooth sailing from then on but unfortunately, JS-210 was only for static display and not a part of the flying display. Commencement of the first development flight trial was on Sept.20, 2003, within one year of commencement of Jaguar-MC (Mission Computer) development. IOC with all weapons was completed in Sept 2005 and FOC of the twin-seat Jaguar-IB DARIN-II was completed on September 2006. The complete programme took around 4 years and 200 development flights compared to the 8 years and 800 development flights needed for the DARIN-I avionics system for Indian Jaguars. HAL had already indeginised about 520 items in the original Jaguar-IS, including the spoiler mechanical block, throttle box, front/rear canopy frame, excitation demodulation unit, bottom panel, radome (Jaguar-IM) and canopy beams.”
